On January 31st at 4:30pm, members of the Barnegat Police Narcotics Unit arrested Joseph Barton, 49, and Michael Euston, 34, both of Barnegat on multiple charges.
The officers were in the area of the Lillian M Dunfee elementary school when they observed Barton and Euston engage in a hand-to-hand drug transaction. Barton began to leave the area on a bicycle when he was stopped and arrested.
Euston ignored orders to stop and fled the scene on foot. One of the officers chased Euston to the area of Bilge Avenue where he was located hiding behind a residence.
Barton was charged with possession of heroin (3rd degree). He was processed and released pending a court date.
Euston was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, distribution of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute in a school zone, distribution of heroin in a school zone (all 3rd degree), and resisting arrest (4th degree). He was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $77,500 bail.
