Chief Arthur P. Drexler is proud to announce that Kyle Cranmer, 29, of Little Egg Harbor and Anthony Carlo, 23, of Barnegat were both hired as full-time police officers with the Barnegat Police Department during the Committee Meeting held on March 10th.
Cranmer and Carlo were hired in order to replace retired officers. The department, which once had 47 full-time officers, had been reduced to 41 with the retirement of six officers over the past several years. Upon Cranmer and Carlo’s completion of the police academy and Barnegat Police Field Training Program they will join officers Brett Taylor and Stephen Russoniello (who are currently undergoing training at the Monmouth County Police Academy) to bring the department up to 45 officers.
The new officers were hired after finishing in the top 2% of over 250 applicants who endured a highly competitive and rigorous selection process. As Ocean County’s only nationally accredited police department, the Barnegat Police Department’s selection process is governed by numerous CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) standards and processes that meet or exceed the best practices in law enforcement.
Cranmer earned a bachelor of arts degree in historical studies from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Carlo earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from Monmouth University.
The Barnegat Police Department is excited to welcome these highly-qualified candidates. Both officers will undergo training at the Ocean County Police Academy beginning in April.
