The Barnegat Police Department would like residents to be aware of a recent scam that has targeted the age restricted communities in the area.  Some residents have received telephone calls from subjects falsely claiming to be relatives that have gotten into trouble in Canada. These subjects then request that money be wired to them to resolve their situation. One resident also received a call from a subject that claimed to be from a police department in Canada. The subject claimed that one of the resident's relatives had been arrested and that they needed to wire money to the police department for bail.

Residents are asked to confirm the identities of subjects calling before they wire any money. If the subjects claim to be from a police department, please contact our agency so that we can assist you in verifying the information.
