3/2/10

On 3/1/10 at 6:23 pm, officers responded to a structure fire at an Ocean County Parks and Recreation building on Cloverdale Road. Both the Barnegat and Pinewood Estates Fire Companies responded and extinguished the blaze. The structure was destroyed by the fire. The Barnegat Police Department Investigative Division, Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office, and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office are investigating. 

 

 On 2/28/10 at 3:26 am, officers responded to the report of a one car motor vehicle accident on Route 532. Upon arrival officers found a 2002 Toyota Tacoma which had collided with a snow embankment. The vehicle had severe front end damage and dual airbag deployment, however, officers found the vehicle to be empty. Officers observed fresh footprints in the snow near the scene and requested assistance from the Ocean County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit which sent a K-9 officer to the scene to conduct a track. The K-9 tracked for approximately an hour, but did not locate the driver. Officers continued the search for several more hours before Ptl. Chris Steins located the uninjured driver, Ryan Rickmers, 22, of Barnegat walking through the woods near his Pine St. residence. 

 

Further investigation revealed that Rickmers was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the collission and that Rickmers was under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest by Ptl. Michael Diblasi and was charged with DWI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, Failure to Report an Accident, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Rickmers was released pending a court date.

On 2/28/10 at 1:30am, Ptl. Nicholas Venuto arrested Kelly Brown, 41, of Lancaster, PA for DWI. Brown was stopped for failing to maintain her lane of travel. She was released after being charged with DWI, Refusal to Submit Breath Samples, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Maintain Lane.

 

2/24/10

On 2/18, members of the Investigative Division executed a search warrant on a motor vehicle operated by Krista Fix, 23, of Cedar Run. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of heroin and hypodermic syringes. Both Fix as well as vehicle passenger Meghan Tormey, 24, of Barnegat were arrested. Fix was charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of Suboxone, and Possession of Heroin with Intent to Distribute, and was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $45,000 bail. Tormey was charged with Possession of Heroin and was released pending a court date. 

2/18/10

On 2/18 at 2:01 am, Ptl. Greg Martinez arrested Meghan Duff, 26, of Manahawkin for DWI after stopping the vehicle Duff was operating for failing to maintain lane of travel. Duff was charged with DWI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Maintenance of Lamps. Duff was also arrested on an outstanding warrant out of East Brunswick for $500.

On 2/7  at 10:27 pm Ptl. Lauren Keilitz arrested Michael Rosamilia, 50, of Barnegat for DWI. Rasomalilia was stopped for Failure to Maintain Lane and Operating an Unregistered Vehicle.

On 2/2, members of the Investigative Division arrested Michael Monaco, 20, of Barnegat for Wandering to Obtain CDS.Monaco was stopped in the area of Lexington Blvd for operating a bicycle without the proper headlight or audible device.

On 1/22, Detective Michael Mitchell charged Kyle Adams, 23, of Barnegat with Theft after a week long investigation revealed Adams was responsible for stealing a $3,000 diamond ring from a South Seas Ct home on 1/14/10. Adams was arrested and released with a complaint summons for Theft.

2/2/10

 On 1/29 at approximately 7pm, officers responded to the Hearthside Cafe on Route 9 for a report of a white male causing a disturbance. The subject left the establishment prior to officer arrival. Ptl. Nicholas Dapuzzo along with his Field Training Officer Ptl. Timothy Bradshaw conducted a check of the immediate area and were able to locate a subject matching the description, Eric Finn, 40, of Manahawkin, walking north on Route 9. While conducting the investigation, Finn became unccoperative and disorderly and was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. He was transported to Barnegat Police headuarters where he was processed and released with a complaint summons for Disorderly Conduct.

 

1/27/10

On 1/26, members of the Barnegat Police Department, Stafford Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff's Department, and South Regional SWAT team executed a search warrant at a Redcoat Dr address in Barnegat. While conducting a search of the residence, officers recovered cocaine, prescription drugs, drug paraphernalia, and stolen property. As a result of the investigation, David Moglia, 30, of Barnegat and Jessica Moore, 27, of Barnegat were both arrested and charged with the following offenses:

Possession of Cocaine

Possession of Cocaine w/ Intent to Distribute

Receiving Stolen Property

Possession of a Prescription Legend Drug-- 2 counts

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Both Moglia and Moore were lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $70,000 bail.

 

On 1/25 at 12:45 PM, Officers responded to Luk Oil on West Bay Ave for a report of a male threatening another male with a machete. The responding officers determined that an altercation had taken place between two Luk Oil employees during which one of the employees, Michael Maltese (50 yoa from Barnegat), retrieved a machete from his personal vehicle which he used to threaten the other employee. Officers recovered the machete and arrested  Maltese for Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Maltese was charged with all three offenses and lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $35,000 bail.

1/25/10

On 1/22 at 10:53 pm Sgt. Jeff Ryan arrested Raymond Jansen, 70, of Somers, NY for DWI after stopping Somer's vehicle for speeding on Route 539. Somers was released with summons for DWI, Reckless Driving, Speeding (81 in a 55), and Failure to Maintain Lane.

1/22/10

On January 20th Seaside Park police officers arrested Malissa Shirley, 26, of Seaside Park, NJ on a $7,500 warrant out of Barnegat township. The warrant stemmed from an incident on January 14th when Shirley is alleged to have entered an unattended, unlocked vehicle in the parking lot of the Wawa on Route 9 in Barnegat where she is alleged to have removed $40 in cash and three bottles of prescription medications. The warrant for Shirley was issued after an investigation by Barnegat Detective William Sierchio uncovered evidence that Shirley was responsible. Barnegat officers responded to Seaside Park and took custody of Shirley after which she was processed and lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of bail.

1/20/10

 On 1/18officers responded to the area of Route 9 and West Bay Avenue for a report of an erratic driver. Ptl. Alex Hoffman located the vehicle in question and arrested the driver, 69 year old Marie Grampone of Forked River for DWI. Grampone was charged with DWI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, Uninsured Motorist, and Refusal to Submit Breath Samples.

On 1/15 Det. Hetrick charged Mukundcha Bhatt, 66, of Barnegat with Harassment after an investigation into allegations that Bhatt attempted to kiss and inappropriately touch a student while working as a substitute teacher at the high school. Bhatt was processed and released on a complaint summons. 

 

1/13/10

Bayshore Dr has been reduced to one lane near Clifton Rd due to a downed power line. JCP&L is on scene and working to resolve the issue, however, area residents may be without power for the next few hours.

1/7/10

On 1/6 at 1:29 AM, Ptl. Robert Armstrong arrested Allen Collins, 26, of Brick for DWI. Collins was stopped for failing to maintain his lane of travel on Route 72.

On 1/5 at 6:26 PM, officers responded to a three car collision at the intersection of Barnegat Blvd and Bengal Blvd. As a result of the investigation, Ptl. Nicholas Dapuzzo  arrested 57 year old Mark Haney of Barnegat for DWI. It was also discovered that Haney was operating his vehicle with a suspended drivers license and had an outstanding warrant for $1,310 out of Red Bank. He was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of bail.

On 1/1 at 9:23 PM, Ptl. Thomas Behrens arrested Steven Morgan, 36, of Barnegat for DWI. Morgan's vehicle was stopped on West Bay Avenue for Failing to Maintain Lane of Travel.

12/30/09

On 12/28 at 6:58 pm, Ptl. Nicholas Dapuzzo responded to Rt 9 for a report of an intoxicated driver. Ptl. Dapuzzo located and stopped the suspect vehicle near the Barnegat Motel and arrested the driver for DWI. The driver, Daniel Bergin, 50, of Delaware was charged with DWI, Reckless Driving, Uninsured Vehicle, Unregistered Vehicle, and Driving with a Suspended Drivers License. 

On 12/27 Ptl. Robert Armstrong arrested Jan Parker, 30, of Barnegat for an outstanding contempt of court warrant.

On 12/26 at 6:49 pm, officers were called to the Mirage Development for a report of a suspicious male walking around the gated community. Police located the individual who subsequently provided officers with a false name. During the investigation, officers identified the man as Richard Krimmel, 31, of Louisiana. Krimmel was arrested and charged with Obstructing the Administration of Law and Resisting Arrest. He was lodged in the Ocean County Jail on $5,000 bail.

On 12/25 at 5:12 pm, officers were called to the area of West Bay Avenue and 8th St regarding an intoxicated female. During the investigation officers determined that Julie Sears, 43, of Barnegat had struck a snow bank while operating her vehicle. She was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for DWI by Ptl. Brian Weber.

The police department responded to 137 calls for service during this past weekends winter storm. Some of the storm related calls that officers responded to included: 47 disabled/stuck motor vehicles, 9 motor vehicle complaints, and 7 motor vehicle accidents.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a coastal storm to impact the Barnegat area on Saturday and Sunday. The storm has the potential to produce snowfall in excess of 6 inches and will be accompanied by strong winds gusting to 50 mph. Minor flooding along the coast is also expected. Residents should ensure that they are prepared for a winter storm event.

On 12/9 at 1:18 am, Ptl. Alex Hoffman arrested Lisa Cottrell, 46, of Bayville for DWI.

On 12/9 at 9:23 pm Ptl. Alex Hoffman arrested Glen Maulbeck, 45, of Barnegat for DWI . Maulbeck was also found to be driving with a suspended drivers license.

12/14/09

On 12/5 at 10:47 pm, Ptl Anthony King arrested Lindsey Pettigrew, 24, of Beach Haven for two outstanding Contempt of Court warrants totaling $10,500.  Pettigrew was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of bail.

On 12/5 at 12:23 am, Ptl. Lauren Keilitz stopped a vehicle for being unregistered and determined that the vehicle had been stolen out of Berkeley, NJ. The operator, William Faiges, 53, of Ocean Gate was arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle and was also found to be in possession of heroin. Faiges was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $30,000 bail.

On 12/4 at 5:20 pm, police responded to the Barnegat Wine and Spirits for a report of a shoplifter. The actor had fled prior to police arrival, however, officers were able to view surveillance video which clearly showed both the theft and the vehicle  in which the suspect fled. At 12:50 am, officers located the vehicle and the suspect, Michael Giordano Jr., 25, of Barnegat who was still in possession of a stolen bottle of champagne. Girodano Jr. was arrested and charged with shoplifting. Giordano was also found to have $1,120 in outstanding warrants. He was lodged in the Ocean County Jail.

The department is pleased to announce the addition of Nicholas Dapuzzo as our newest patrol officer. Patrolman Dapuzzo was selected from a competitive field of several hundred candidates. He is a graduate of the Ocean County Police Academy and has a Bachelors Degree from the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. 

The department would like to thank the Township Committee and Administrator Breeden for providing the resources necessary to continue to provide the highest level of service to the citizens of Barnegat Township.

On 11/29 at 12:34 am, officers responded to a disturbance at a Nautilus Dr residence and arrested Matthew Ackerman, 18, of Little Egg Harbor for making terroristic threat. Ackerman was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $10,000 bail.

12/2/09

Residents who wish to help area children in need during the upcoming holiday season are asked to drop off new, unwrapped toys in the lobby of the police department. The toys will be distributed to township children in need through the Barnegat School District.

 

On 12/9 at 10:19 pm Sgt. Richard Cassidy arrested Michele Best, 46, of Toms River for DWI. During the stop, vehicle passenger Jaquelin Keelan, 43, of Barnegat became irate and was placed under arrest for interfered with the investigation. During the arrest Keelan physically resisted resulting in an additional charge of Resisting Arrest.

11/25/09

Five township juveniles will have the option to participate in the Stationhouse Adjustment Program or have charges signed against them for their involvement in a November 14th incident. Four males and one female ages 14 and 15 admitted to burglarizing and damaging a storage shed belonging to the Barnegat Little League.  The juveniles caused approximately $1,425 worth of damage to the shed and stole $1,355 worth of various equipment from inside of the shed.

On 11/18 at 9:02 am police were called to the Genuardis grocery store for a report of a shoplifter who had just left the area in a vehicle. Responding officers located and stopped the vehicle on Barnegat Blvd and arrested Ira Falkowsky, 41, of Barnegat. During the ensuing investigation, Falkowsky also admitted to shoplifting at Genuardis on 10/05/09.

11/18/09

The Barnegat Police Department would like residents to be aware of a recent scam that has targeted the age restricted communities in the area.  Some residents have received telephone calls from subjects falsely claiming to be relatives that have gotten into trouble in Canada. These subjects then request that money be wired to them to resolve their situation. One resident also received a call from a subject that claimed to be from a police department in Canada. The subject claimed that one of the resident's relatives had been arrested and that they needed to wire money to the police department for bail.

Residents are asked to confirm the identities of subjects calling before they wire any money. If the subjects claim to be from a police department, please contact our agency so that we can assist you in verifying the information.

On 11/10 at 11:30 pm, Ptl. Robert Armstrong arrested Robert Horner, 34, of Barnegat for DWI. Ptl. Armstrong had been investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle on Ridgeway St.

On 10/30 Ptl. Joseph Stanziano arrested Kareem Royster, 35, of Barnegat on an outstanding Contempt of Court warrant.

On 10/29 Ptl. Julie Yakes arrested David Musella, 37, of Manahawkin for DWI after Musella caused a vehicle collision on West Bay Ave.

10/27/09

JCP&L will be conducting aerial inspections of its overhead transmission lines in central New Jersey beginning on Oct 27th. Residents may notice low flying helicopters hovering over substations and transmission lines around Barnegat. The two helicopters that will be used will have tail numbers N765KV and N353AH.

10/26/09

On 10/23 at 12:51 am police responded to 39 Lowershore Rd regarding a possible assault. When police arrived, they heard a male voice yelling followed by several thud like sounds. Officers made entry into the home and observed the resident, James Lacey, 38, holding a dog by its neck on the ground while repeatedly punching the dog in the abdomen. That dog as well as other pets were removed by animal control officers. Lacey was arrested on an outstanding contempt of court warrant and was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $10,000 bail.

10/21/09

On 10/14, mailboxes from the Timbers section were severely damaged by what appeared to be a homemade explosive device. Investigating officers located pieces of 1 and 2 liter plastic drink containers containing an as of yet unidentified white powdery substance.  The plastic pieces were sent to the lab and the department is awaiting the results. Anyone who has information regarding these offenses is asked to contact the anonymous tip line at 660-TIPS.

10/19/09

On 10/18 at 1:26 am, Ptl. Robert Armstrong arrested Charles Miller, 73, of Wharton for DWI after stopping Miller's vehicle for obstructing traffic on Route 9.

 On 10/16 at 8:54 pm, police responded to Lexington Blvd for a report of a suspicious person. During their investigation, police made contact with Josh Zane, 21, of Barnegat and discovered  that he was unlawfully in possession of a stun gun. Zane was arrested and lodged in the Ocean County Jail on $7,500 bail.

10/15/09

On 10/14, members of the Investigative Division, Patrol Division, and Stafford Police Department executed a search warrant at 2 Sterling Ct. As the result of a search of the residence, police recovered cocaine, marijuana, steroids, drug paraphernalia, hypodermic syringes, oxycodone, and two handguns. 

Placed under arrest were Salvatore V. Costa, 19, Salvatore Costa, 48, and Giuseppe Costa, 21, all of the Sterling Court residence. Salvatore V. and Salvatore Costa were lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $60,000 bail. Giuseppe Costa was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $30,000 bail.  

10/14/09

On 10/13 Ptl. Greg Martinez arrested William Messenger, 42, of Barnegat for a civil contempt of court warrant for $36,275.

On 10/12 at 7:07 pm, Ptl. Brian Weber arrested Sean Leonard, 36, of Barnegat for Possession of Marijuana under 50 grams and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after stopping Leonard's vehicle on Route 72.

10/13/09

At 8:34 am, officers were dispatched to a Windward Dr address for a fully engulfed structure fire. All of the occupants of the residence had evacuated prior to officer arrival. Barnegat Fire Department, Stafford Fire Department, Quality Ambulance, and the Ocean County Fire Marshall all responded. Surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution while the fire departments extinguished the fire.

On 10/10 at 3:45 pm, a white male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt removed a full tip jar from the counter top at the China King restaurant located in the Genuardis plaza. The suspect left the area in a gold Ford Explorer. The tip jar contained approximately $200 dollars. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the tip line at 660-TIPS or contact us via the website.

On 9/30, members of the Investigative Division, Patrol Division, and Ocean County Sheriff's Department executed search warrants at 44 Chestnutway Circle on both the residence and on a vehicle.A search of the residence and vehicle resulted in the seizure of Ecstasy, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and brass knuckles. As a result of the recovered evidence, Benjamin Penque, Shawna Halko, Ronald Penque II, and Ronald Penque III were placed under arrest.

On 9/28 at 10:52 pm, Ptl. Greg Martinez arrested Brian Sturdee, 40, of Barnegat for DWI after the vehicle Sturdee was operating was stopped for failure to maintain lane on Bengal Blvd. 

9/22/09

On 9/18, members of the Investigative Division, Patrol Division, and South Regional SWAT team executed a search warrant at 23 Lexington Blvd. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of marijuana, prescription drugs including Percocet, and drug paraphernalia. Michael Fisher, 40, of that residence was arrested and lodged in the Ocean County Jail on $20,000 bail.

9/17/09

On 9/13 at 10:36 pm, Ptl. Greg Martinez arrested Richard Ralston III, 21, of Barnegat for Burglary, Theft, and Possession of Methadone after Ralston admitted to unlawfully entering a Settlers Landing home and stealing prescription medication. Ralston was lodged in the Ocean County Jail on $20,000.

9/11/09

On 9/10 at 5:50 am, the department received a call from a resident of Longboat Avenue who observed someone inside of the resident's vehicle. The person who had entered the vehicle, later identified as Robert Oneill, 20, of Barnegat, fled the area after the victim confronted him. Responding police located Oneill in the back yard of another Longboat Avenue residence. Ptl. Chris Steins placed Oneill under arrest and charged him with Burglary. Oneill was found to be in possession of a Visa gift card which he admitted stealing from another vehicle. Because he could not remember where the vehicle was located, the department has been unable to identify the victim. Anyone who resides in the Settlers Landing area and is missing a Visa gift card from their vehicle is asked to contact the department.

9/9/09

On 9/6 at 12:53 am, Ptl. Timothy Bradshaw arrested Franklin Brower, 33, of Barnegat for DWI after stopping the vehicle Brower was operating for failing to stop at a stop sign.

On 9/5 at 12:12 am, Ptl. Greg Martinez arrested David Kulp, 55, of Harleyville, PA for DWI after stopping the vehicle Kulp was operating for failing to maintain lane of travel. 

9/7/09

The Barnegat Township Police Department website is now an award winning site. Web Alliance International, Inc, the company which designed and built barnegatpolice.com, received a 2009 American Graphic Design Award for the police department website. Barnegatpolice.com was among over 8,000 websites which were entered in the contest.  

On 9/4 at 7:33 am, officers responded to a burglary at Sweet Jenny's Restaurant on Rout 9. Employees had discovered that the building had been entered and that a cash register was missing. After a day long investigation, officers determined that a 16 year old male was responsible for the offense. Det. Michael Mitchell charged the juvenile with Burglary, Theft, and Criminal Mischief.

On 9/3 at 11:02 pm, officers responded to the area of Schooner Ave and Mast Dr for a report of a fight involving a large group of people and weapons involved. Officers arrived before the fight ensued and ultimately arrested 2 individuals who had baseball bats in their possession. Richard Bowen, 19, and Mina Ghobrial, 19, both of Barnegat were charged with Possession of an Unlawful Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Both were lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $5,000 bail.
